Dental Bonding Thousand Oaks
Dental Bonding (similar to veneers) is used to restore broken, damaged, or discolored teeth by bonding a special resin to the affected areas of the teeth.
How does it work?
We prepare the tooth by creating small abrasions along the damaged area and apply a special bonding material. Plastic resin is then applied to the material, and our outstanding doctors are able to shape the resin to match the tooth itself.
Dental Bonding is a standard procedure and can often be completed in one office visit. The results are amazing however, since the resin material used for bonding is not as strong as your natural tooth enamel, there is a chance that it may break, stain or chip away. Bonding typically can last up to 3-5 years before repair is needed.
Porcelain Veneers Thousand OaksPorcelain Veneers are thin pieces of ceramic that bond directly onto the surfaces of your teeth. The procedure for applying them is very simple and these small changes can lead to some amazing improvements to your smile. Applying custom veneers requires a high degree of technical precision as well as attention to cosmetic detail. We regularly apply veneers and design each case separately to match and improve each patient's smile.
Will they look like normal teeth?Yes. The veneers that our doctors use are virtually undetectable and highly resistant to coffee, tea and cigarette stains. While natural tooth enamel is still stronger, the porcelain used for veneers is still very strong and can allow you to live your life without restrictions.
How durable are porcelain veneers? With proper care, porcelain veneers can enhance your smile for well over a decade. Dr. Saremi and Dr. Johnstone use only the highest quality porcelain on their patients. With a state-of-the-art facility, they rely on the most advanced systems and materials available to doctors today. Use your teeth for food not bottle openers! Refraining from using your veneers for things other than consumption to prevent accidental damage and to extend their lifespan. It is possible to replace veneers in the case that they do break, simply reach out to our office and schedule an appointment to have them fixed.
Inlays & Onlays Thousand OaksInlays & Onlays are used to repair teeth when normal fillings are not enough and crowns are too much. The difference between an inlay vs an onlay is how wide the damaged area of the tooth is and if the damage includes a cusp of a tooth.
If the damage includes the cusp of a tooth (found on molars and premolars), more extensive work is required to repair the tooth which would require an Onlay. Inlays and Onlays are usually made of porcelain, resin, or gold. These pieces are generally created outside of the practice in a lab and then bonded to the damaged area of the tooth. Porcelain has become the popular choice in material due to its strength and white color.
What is the procedure like?Inlays and Onlays require two appointments to complete the process. During the first visit, our doctors will prepare the tooth for the inlay/onlay. They will remove the damaged or decaying area of the tooth and apply a temporary sealant. An impression will be taken of the damaged tooth and sent to a lab, where they will create the inlay/onlay with careful consideration for proper fit and bite.
During the second appointment, Dr. Saremi and Dr. Johnstone will remove the temporary sealant and verify that the inlay/onlay fits the damaged tooth properly. If the lab-produced inlay/onlay is satisfactory, it will be bonded to the tooth with a strong resin and polished to ensure your smile looks perfect.
Considerations for Inlays and OnlaysIn comparison to Dental Fillings, which can reduce the strength of a tooth, Inlays/Onlays can actually increase the strength of a natural tooth by up to 75%. As a result, Inlays and Onlays have a much longer lifespan ranging from 10-30 years making them a very powerful dental asset.
Teeth Whitening Thousand OaksHaving stained or discolored teeth is more common than you might think. To achieve your ideal smile, we offer a bleaching procedure which can significantly whiten teeth.
How does teeth whitening work? It’s safe, quick, and inexpensive. The process takes only one appointment and you can choose to lighten your upper, lower or both rows of teeth. Dr. Saremi and Dr. Johnstone will prepare custom bleach splints in only a day or two for you to take home. You wear this clear splint with a special bleaching agent for only a few hours per day and our bleaching agent will bubble the stains/discolorations out of your enamel in a very short time. When you decide your teeth are the ideal white, only occasional treatment is required to maintain this color.
Dental bleaching can be used to correct tooth discoloration. Discolorations are usually caused by staining, aging or chemical damage to the teeth. Our practice relies on cutting edge dental technology to offer you a safe bleaching method and at competitive pricing. If dental bleaching is not satisfactory, crowns or veneers can serve as alternatives to guarantee your ideal smile.

What is Zoom! tooth whitening?Zoom! is a bleaching process that lightens discoloration of enamel and dentin.
What can cause tooth discoloration?Tooth discoloration is rather common and there are many reasons it happens. The most common include aging and consumption of staining substances such as coffee, tea or tobacco. Certain chemicals during tooth formation can also cause discoloration: consumption of tetracycline, certain antibiotics or excessive fluoride are just a few examples.
Who may benefit from tooth whitening?Anyone can benefit from tooth whitening. However, since no two smiles are the same, the treatment can vary with effectiveness. If you already have a very white smile, then the impact from whitening can be harder to assess. With an oral exam, Drs. Saremi and Johnstone can determine if you are a candidate for this procedure, including a shade assessment.
Is tooth whitening becoming more popular?Absolutely! With new technology like the Zoom! Whitening System, tooth whitening has become faster and easier than ever before, making this an increasingly popular procedure.
Is tooth whitening safe?Yes it is. Research and clinical studies indicate that tooth whitening is very safe with dentist supervision. In fact, many dentists consider whitening the safest cosmetic dental procedure available. As with any tooth whitening product, Zoom! is not recommended for children under 13 years of age and pregnant or lactating women.
Are there any side effects? Some people experience temporary increased tooth sensitivity to cold during treatment. These symptoms disappear within 1-3 days after interruption or completion of the treatment.
How is the Zoom! Take-Home System different from the Zoom! In-Office System? The main difference between the two systems is that you use the Zoom! Take-Home System in the convenience of your own home over a few nights. The Zoom! In-Office System is performed entirely in the office.
Take Home Teeth Whitening Thousand Oaks
Professional results—in the comfort of your own homeWe understand the increasing desire for dental comfort at home, which is why we offer Opalescence take-home whitening gel. Opalescence is a great solution for people who desire options and convenience. Whether it's 30 minutes or overnight, you can choose to wear Opalescence for as long as you want to achieve your desired results.
Opalescence is only dispensed by licensed dental professionals to deliver professional grade whitening results at a convenient and customized way. Opalescence tooth whitening gel contains PF (potassium nitrate and fluoride). Potassium nitrate has been shown to help reduce sensitivity. Fluoride has been shown to help reduce cavities and strengthen enamel. Together, they help to improve the overall health of the teeth.
How Does Teeth Whitening Work? There are two classifications for stains on teeth. Extrinsic stains appear on the surface of your teeth, while intrinsic stains appear in between the micro-cracks of your enamel and within the dentin layer of the tooth. Whitening toothpastes struggle to remove 100% of these stains and so far, only teeth whitening agents offer a complete solution.
Opalescence gels contain an active whitening ingredient (carbamide peroxide or hydrogen peroxide) that penetrates your enamel to get to discolored molecules. Oxygen molecules from the whitening agents react with the discolored molecules in your teeth, breaking the bonds that hold them together. The oxygen molecules spread, whitening the entire tooth. As a result, you are left with a brighter, whiter smile.
